Aeromaster, a kit car company based in Sofia, Bulgaria now offer
a replica of the 2003 Le Mans race winning Bentley Speed 8 prototype
race car. And while the Aeromaster LMP clearly wonít have anywhere
near the performance of the Bentley, it is a fairly accurate
replica from the outside. At the very least it should get you
some attention on a trackday! It's also way, way cheaper than
the real thing, which is out of the price range of just about
everyone except for lottery winners and oil barons.
The Aeromaster LMP features a steel space frame chassis and
fiberglass body. Aeromaster say the body panels are all designed
to quickly and easily bolt on to the chassis. The body itself
was designed using CAD software and is 80 percent accurate to
the Bentley. Modifications were made to make it easier to build
and maintain. The molds for the bodywork were made using large-scale
CNC milling machines for millimetre perfect tolerances.
Sadly the drivetrain of the Aeromaster LMP isnít quite as impressive
as that used in the Bentley Speed 8, which was fitted with an
Audi-sourced 4.0 litre twin-turbocharged V8. The standard Aeromaster
LMP is designed to accept the PRV (Peugeot, Renault, Volvo)
V6 engine - oddly the same engine used in the DMC Delorean.
However as it is a replica race car with a spaceframe chassis,
getting more potent drivetrains to fit shouldn't be too much
trouble for experienced builders or mechanics.
